Introduction

This book offers useful suggestions for the daily practice of Acem Meditation.

It highlights the fundamental concepts and principles of Acem's theory of meditation.

A beginner's course in Acem Meditation includes group instructions and guidance. To receive the full benefit of the course, the beginner is recommended to meditate every day and to participate in the meditation classes. It is not possible to learn Acem Meditation solely by reading or listening to audiotapes or audio CDs. Although these may be helpful, the only way to become skilled in meditation is through regular practice and personal instruction from qualified guides.

Acem is an international non-profit organization teaching meditation in Scandinavia and Europe, but also in Asia, Africa, Australia and America. The meditation practice is non-religious, based on modern psychology and biomedical science. Its concepts and principles rest on accumulated and systematized experiences developed by physicians and psychologists devoted to evolving this self-administered technique for the alleviation of stress, increased energy and self-realization.

In addition to the beginner's course, there are opportunities for deeper exploration of Acem Meditation. The most fruitful of these are the international Acem retreats arranged annually in Scandinavia, and less frequently elsewhere in the world. The retreats involve lengthy meditations, which promote further relaxation, personal development and good health. During extended periods of silence, access can be gained to new dimensions of external and internal existence.

One of the first tasks of every meditator is to establish a daily routine of regular meditations. Secondly, it is crucial to understand not only the basic instruction, but also the deeper and paradoxical processes of Acem Meditation. Hopefully, this book will contribute to a rewarding outcome.
